NORFOLK, Va., January 6, 2014 – Delaware State forward Tierra Hawkins was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. Hampton’s Malia Tate-DeFreitas was selected Rookie of the Week, while teammate Brielle Ward earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Hawkins (F, 6-2, r-Jr., Clinton, Md.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season in a 70-64 loss to Howard. Hawkins finished with 26 points, on 10-of-18 shooting, and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. She also added two assists, one steal and one block.
Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Fr., Harrisburg, Pa.) averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a pair of non-conference games. Tate-DeFreitas finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and two assists in a loss to Georgia Tech. In the 70-60 victory over Virginia Tech, Tate-DeFreitas dropped in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and four assists.
Ward (F, 6-2, r-So., Baltimore, Md.) totaled 26 rebounds and three steals in two non-conference games last week. Ward grabbed a career-high and school-record 23 rebounds in the 70-60 win against Virginia Tech. She also added four points, two steals and one assist against the Hokies.

Taylor Bond (MSU) grabbed five rebounds, scored four points, had two assists, two blocks and one steal against Howard.
Tracey Carrington (MSU) poured in a game-high 33 points, along with eight rebounds, in a 71-66 loss against Howard.
Ashleigh Claybrooks (UMES) totaled 20 points and 15 points in games against South Carolina State and Savannah State.
Kenia Cole (Hampton) set career-highs in points (30), free-throws made (12) and free-throws attempted (14), against Virginia Tech.
Shakeyia Colyer (BCU) registered 26 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block in a non-conference loss against Florida Atlantic.
Rae Corbo (NSU) recorded 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and dished out three assists in a loss against Penn.
Cherisha Floyd (SCSU) finished with 10 points, on 4-of-8 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds in a 63-50 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Rachel Gordon (NSU) grabbed seven rebounds, dished out two steals and added six points against Penn.
Deanna Harmon (DSU) poured in 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 70-64 loss against Howard.
Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) finished with nine points, on 3-of-6 shooting, in a 63-46 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) dropped in 22 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, along with seven assists in a win against Delaware State.
Ezinne Kalu (SSU) registered 21 points, including three 3-pointers, along with five steals and four assists in a 53-46 win against UMES.
Dannielle Robinson (MSU) scored seven points, on 3-of-4 shooting, and pulled down five rebounds in a loss to Howard.
