BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Rob Knox has joined the office as the new Sports Information Director.
Rob comes to Coppin State with over 15 years of award-winning experience in sports information, print, digital and electronic media. Rob’s individual awards include being named the 2011 CoSIDA College Division Rising Star, winning three CoSIDA Fred Stabley, Jr. writing contest awards and receiving the “Raising the Bar” award from Lincoln University’s Vice President for Student Affairs (2008).
Rob was also a member of the CoSIDA Board of Directors as a College Division representative and the president of the Black College Sports Information Directors’ Association (BC-SIDA). He served as a member of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee and was the official NCAA representative at the Atlantic Regional finals in 2010.
Most recently Rob spent two years at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut as a Statistics Manager in the Statistics & Analysis department. In his role, he was responsible for planning and overseeing nightly production, supervising seven direct reports and revising schedules to adjust to major sports developments under real-time deadline pressure.
In addition, he was responsible for editing content targeted for studio television, traditional digital and mobile audiences as well as ensuring the integrity of data being processed by the Stats & Analysis group. Rob collaborated with key ESPN stakeholders to lead Stats and Analysis’ college basketball coverage and oversee data-tracking for the 2012 and 2013 NCAA women’s and men’s basketball tournaments.
Rob has extensive experience in sports information.
Prior to working at ESPN, Rob distinguished himself within the Sports Information profession. He worked five years at his alma mater The Lincoln University and two years at Kutztown University. Before entering into the sports information field, Knox was a full-time sports reporter for the Delaware County Daily Times, a daily publication outside of Philadelphia, for five years where he covered high school, college and pro sports.
During his career, Rob has successfully had six student-athletes featured in Sports Illustrated, two basketball players named Division III and Division II Players of the Year, and promoted a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. He assisted The Lincoln University with its transition from Division III to Division II by preparing the application packet and working with CIAA leadership to ensure that Lincoln was in compliance with its application materials.
While at Kutztown, Rob successfully promoted 10 nationally-ranked teams, including a baseball team that reached the Division II World Series. Rob has successfully pitched pieces that appeared on ESPN and Comcast Sportsnet.
He covered the undefeated Saint Joseph’s University men’s basketball team and the Philadelphia Eagles during their run to the Super Bowl as well as two WNBA All-Star Games and the NBA Draft. Rob has had worked published in SLAM Magazine, d3hoops.com, the CIAA website and Womenshoop.com.
The Chester, Pa. native received his bachelor’s degree from The Lincoln University. He is married to Trudell Knox and they are the proud parents of a 3-year old son, Robert, IV (‘RJ”).
