BCU Bowlers stay hot on second day of KU Invite

READING, Pa. – The Bethune-Cookman bowling team continued its hot play on Saturday, picking up a 5-1 record on the second day of the Kutztown Invitational. As the largest tournament in the NCAA for the fourth consecutive year, the three-day event is taking place at Heister Lanes and is hosted by Kutztown University.

Bethune-Cookman went 3-3 in Baker games on Friday, but Traditional play turned everything around for the Wildcats a day later. A 5-1 record for the Wildcats vaulted the Maroon and Gold five spots in the seedings heading into the final day of the tournament.

Four B-CU bowlers registered over 1,000 pins through the six contests on Saturday, including junior Felicia Baker who topped all Wildcats performers with 1,238 pins. Baker recorded games of 244, 224 and 214, respectively.

The Cats opened the day with a tough 990-943 setback to Long Island University, proving to be the only downfall of the day for the Maroon and Gold.

B-CU quickly bounced back in its second match with a 1,022-797 defeat of Penn State-Altoona. The Cats got solid play from Baker with her 244, as well as freshman Ivory Miles with a 226. In the third match of the day, Bethune-Cookman took down Sacred Heart by a count of 963-952. Junior Rachel Moore served as the high scoring Cat in that win, turning in a 212 game, while teammate Krysta Coleman recorded a 211.

The Wildcats claimed their largest pinfall victory in their fourth match, posting a 975-474 win over Mount Aloysius, with Miles rolling her third 200-plus game on the strength of a 214. Coleman posted a 201 in that game as well.

Fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent Coppin State proved to be the fourth win of the day for the Cats as they posted an 857-779 win over the Eagles. Baker served up a 214 in that game for the Maroon and Gold.

The final match of the day was a 932-535 victory for Bethune-Cookman over New Jersey City, using a 224 performance from Baker.

With a record of 8-4 on the weekend, and a total pinfall count of 9,916, the Wildcats sit in 13th place heading into Sunday’s bracket format. The Cats take on Monmouth in their opening match beginning at 9 a.m.
