Brickhouse Leads Eagles to Win over Hampton
HAMPTON, Va. --- Junior guard Daquan Brickhouse scored a career-high 18 points to lead Coppin State past Hampton, 71-68, in a wonderfully-played Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s basketball game at the Convocation Center Saturday night.
With its second straight conference win, the Eagles improved their overall record to 6-11 and conference mark to 3-1. Two of Coppin State’s three MEAC wins have been on the road, which is tough to do in this rugged conference. Coppin handed Hampton (8-9, 3-1) its first loss in conference play and second of the season at home.
The Eagles demonstrated why they lead the MEAC in free-throw shooting percentage and are one of the top teams in the nation in that category. Coppin State went 24-for-32 from the charity stripe, including 5-of-6 in the final 45 seconds to seal the victory. The Eagles entered the game with three players shooting at least 80 percent (Brickhouse, Andre Armstrong and Taariq Cephas) from the foul line.
Cephas had 13 points. He scored six straight points for Coppin State to keep them within one point late in the second half. His last point of the game with 42 seconds remaining gave the Eagles the lead for good, 67-66.
