“Our student-athletes are competitors, and they compete in the classroom as well as in their sports,” said Derrick K. Ramsey, Director of Athletics. “They continue to engage in their academics while balancing their demanding schedules. Mr. Fred Reynolds has effectively managed our Athletic Academic Unit and the campus has embraced his leadership. We have many stories of individual accomplishments in the classroom.”
Ramsey has imposed a culture where coaches and student-athletes begin each semester competing for the Director Cup. The Director’s Cup is awarded to the program who earns the highest team GPA. In addition the Director’s Cup, The Most Improved Award is awarded to the program who has demonstrated a high level of academic success over the course of the year.
“The coaches are committed to evaluating and recruiting prospective student-athletes that are committed to academic excellence and earning their degree, said Fred Reynolds, Assistant Athletic Director. The Coaches continue working with their student-athletes once they join our program by scheduling weekly academic meetings.
