NORFOLK, Va., January 6, 2014 – Jyles Smith of Savannah State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Jeremiah Hill, also of SSU, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while N.C A&T’s Bruce Beckford was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Smith (F, 6-9, 250, Sr., Fairburn, Ga.) collected 18 total points with 33 rebounds, nine blocks and two steals in a pair of conference wins against Maryland E. Shore and Coppin State. Smith recorded a double-double of 14 points and 20 rebounds, shooting perfectly from the field (6-of-6), in the victory over CSU. He also hauled down 13 boards, with six blocks and two steals against the Hawks.
Hill (G, 6-1, 175, Fr., Richmond Hill, Ga.) recorded 33 points in back-to-back conference wins last week. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, he scored 17 points, hitting 50-percent from long-rang (3-of-6), and collected two rebounds. He also hit 6-of-8 from the field, for 16 points, with two rebounds and one block in the win over Coppin State.
Beckford (F, 6-7, 215, So., Silver Spring, Md.) hauled down 11 boards with two blocked shots and two steals in a win over Bethune-Cookman. Offensively, he fell one point shy of a double-double with nine points, shooting 3-of-3 from the free-throw, along with four assists.

Jamie Adams (Florida A&M) scored 19 points and recorded three blocks, two assists and three steals against North Carolina Central.
Hakeem Baxter (UMES) averaged 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal in three conference games last week.
Emanuel Chapman (NCCU) averaged 11.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals in games against Hampton and Florida A&M.
Ian Chiles (MSU) registered 17 points, six rebounds and four blocks against South Carolina State.
Lawrence Cooks (Hampton) finished with 13 points and six boards against Delaware State.
Kendall Gray (DSU) recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds with two blocks and one steal against Hampton.
Brandon Goode (NSU) tallied 12 points and seven rebounds against Maryland E. Shore.
Anthony Hubbard (MSU) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, with one assist and one steal, against South Carolina State.
Du’Vaughn Maxwell (Hampton) averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 steals in games against North Carolina Central and Delaware State.
Dwight Meikle (Hampton) totaled 20 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one block in two conference games last week.
Richaud Pack (NCAT) registered 19 points, connecting on 10-of-10 free-throws, with five rebounds and one assist in a win over Bethune-Cookman.
Pendarvis Williams (NSU) recorded 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists in a win over Maryland E. Shore.
