NORFOLK, Va., January 13, 2014 – Hampton guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. Delaware State’s Raven Bankston was selected the Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State’s Omaah Tayong earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Fr., Harrisburg, Pa.) poured in 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 79-39 victory against Delaware State. Tate-DeFrietas shot 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also added three assists and two steals.
Bankston (G, 5-7, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists in a pair of games. Bankston finished with 27 points, on 8-of-17 shooting, in a 75-72 overtime win against NJIT. She added 17 points and seven rebounds in a loss to Hampton.
Tayong (C, 6-2, So., Baltimore, Md.) recorded 23 rebounds, one steal and one block in a 68-53 victory against Savannah State. Tayong, who made her first collegiate start against Savannah State, had the third most rebounds in a single game in Coppin State women’s basketball history. She also added 10 points.

Alyssa Bennett (Hampton) finished with 25 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and nine rebounds in a win against Delaware State.
Tracey Carrington (MSU) poured in 29 points, including four 3-pointers, in a non-conference loss to Penn.
Shakeyia Colyer (BCU) registered 14 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists against North Carolina A&T.
Racquel Davis (NCCU) poured in a career-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 71-64 victory against Florida A&M.
Ivy Harrington (MSU) registered 12 points, six rebounds and pair of steals, in a 59-42 loss against Cornell.
Victoria Gonzalez (Howard) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals against Cornell.
Persephone Goodwin (SCSU) registered 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in an 80-53 win against Morgan State.
Rachel Gordon (NSU) finished with 19 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in a 73-66 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Jasmine Grice (FAMU) dropped in 19 points, 11 coming in the second half, with six rebounds, in a 71-64 loss to NCCU.
Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) recorded 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals in a loss to Cornell.
Tracy King (NCAT) averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.0 assists in a pair of games.
Jessica Long (UMES) recorded 29 points, nine rebounds, eight steals, and six assists against Norfolk State.
Logan Powell (NSU) registered 10 rebounds, seven points, three steals and one block against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Simone Sampson (MSU) totaled 15 rebounds, six defensively, and a block in three games.
Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) recorded 20 points, on 6-of-12 shooting, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line in a loss to N.C. A&T.
Kourtney Williams (SCSU) averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of games.
