MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., September 9, 2013 – Howard University freshman Katherine Broussard was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Petra Jerabkova earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Broussard (OH, 5-11, Fr., Harvey, La.) registered 63 kills on 174 attacks (.247) and added 51 digs as she helped lead the Lady Bison to a 3-1 record last week. Broussard had double-doubles in two of the four games played and just missed a third by one dig.

Jerabkova (S, 5-11, Jr., Czech Republic) was named to the Sacred Heart All-Tournament Team after posting 24 kills, 41 assists and 32 digs. Against Manhattan, Jerabkova hit .278 with a double-double of 15 kills and added 21 assists.

was named to the Stetson Westin Classic All-Tournament Team.

Victoria Ferguson (SCSU) averaged 8.33 digs in three matches with a match-high 12 against College of Charleston.

Katherine Huanec (FAMU) finished with a double-double of 23 kills and 23 digs against Florida Gulf Coast.

Goda Jankauskaite (NSU) recorded 36 kills and averaged 2.57 kills in four matches for the Spartans.

Alyse Lewis (SCSU) averaged 3.0 blocks in three matches while hitting .413 at the Hampton Inn/College of Charleston Invitational.

Haley McClure (MSU) tallied a season-best eight kills, two blocks and five digs against Loyola-Chicago.

Aleena McDaniel (NCAT) recorded a career-high 17 kills and 10 digs in a five-set thriller against Alabama State.

Gabrielle Nathaniel (SSU) registered 17 kills, four assists and three digs at the Stetson Westin Classic.

Gabrielle Otero (CSU) was named best libero at the George Mason Patriot Invitational and had a week-best 29 digs against Princeton.

Kalin Russell (NCCU) finished the week with 18 kills, nine blocks and six digs.

Rhea Simon (B-CU) tallied a career-best 12 kills against Stetson.

Zuri Smith (MSU) earned East Carolina Classic All-Tournament honors after registering a career-high 15 kills in a five-set win over The Citadel.

Vendula Strakova (HAM) was selected to the Boston College Invitational All-Tournament Team after posting 57 kills and 26 digs in three matches.

Alexas Thomas (B-CU) finished with 76 assists and averaged 8.3 at the Stetson Westin Classic.

Tori Tulensru (NSU) registered 11 kills, nine digs and four blocks in the Spartans win over Canisius.
