FAIRFAX, Va. -- Sophomore Kendra Ireigbe had eight kills and posted a .444 attack percentage, but Coppin State dropped a 25-17, 22-25, 25-13, 25-19 decision to host George Mason in the Eagles opening match of the Patriot Invitational on Friday in the Recreation and Athletic Complex.
Ireigbe had eight kills with no errors in 18 attempts to post her second-highest hitting percentage of the season. She also added two blocks, which marked the fifth-straight match in which she has had at least two blocks.
Cindy Okpegbue led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Ariel Richard had eight kills and 15 digs. Kandace Thomas added eight kills and hit .316, while Nicole Malave notched seven kills and 10 digs.
Gabrielle Otero led the Eagles with 25 digs, which tied her season high, and Chelsee Sauni recorded a season-high 42 assists.

Lady Wildcats drop road contest to Stetson
DELAND, Fla. – Rhea Simon had seven kills and two blocks as Bethune-Cookman dropped a 3-0 (25-16,25-10,25-13) decision to Stetson at the Westin Classic.
The Hatters (3-3) got nine kills from Kaley Melville and capitalized on 28 Lady Cat attack errors to defeat B-CU (0-4) for the seventh consecutive time.
Aria Cormier posted six kills for Bethune-Cookman and also had two blocks.
Sophomore Phlyecia Armstrong, who had missed the last two matches due to injury, returned to the line-up and had four kills in seven attempts.
Freshman setter Alexas Thomas posted 21 assists and five digs while freshman libero Normarie Rolon had a season-high 15 digs.

Norfolk State falls to West Virginia and Navy
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team gave it a ride in the first two sets against West Virginia in the Mountaineer Invitational, but the Spartans ultimately dropped a pair of 3-0 contests to WVU and Navy at the WVU Coliseum.
In the Spartans’ first match of the tournament, Big 12 member West Virginia was just unable to pull away from NSU in those first two sets. The Spartans matched WVU point-for-point for nearly the entirety of both.
Senior Goda Jankauskaite had eight kills to lead NSU, with Jessica Johnson (seven) and Jasmin Flowers and senior Coralie Jarema (six apiece) also contributing. Sophomore Darcy Moore handed out 31 assists, and redshirt junior Noelle Eagles tallied 14 digs.
Up just 7-5 in the third, the Mountaineers won seven straight points to put NSU in too deep of a hole in the final stanza.
West Virginia hit .385 in the third set and .220 overall. NSU attacked at a .124 clip and also came out on the wrong end of a 7-1 WVU advantage in service aces.
The Spartans then looked to rebound against Navy, and in the early part of the match it seemed NSU would do just that. The Spartans took a 7-2 lead to start, and after the Midshipmen came back to take a 13-12 lead, NSU won five straight points to force a Navy timeout. After a kill from Tulensru and a Navy error made it 20-16 in favor of the Spartans, though, the Midshipmen responded by winning nine of the last 10 points of the set.
Jarema and Tori Tulensru had six kills each to lead NSU. The Spartans hit -.057 for the match.

Savannah State falls to Stetson and Providence
DELAND, Fla. – In the opening day of the Stetson University Tournament, the Lady Tigers dropped two matches, falling to 0-5 on the season.
SSU fell to Stetson in the opening game of the tournament, 0-3. In Friday's nightcap, Providence dashed by the Lady Tigers in straight sets, 3-0.
The Lady Tigers get a glimpse of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action in a nonconference matchup against MEAC perennial power Bethune-Cookman, Saturday morning.

Lady Eagles drop pair at Holly Springs Invitational
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – North Carolina Central University volleyball suffered two losses during opening day of the 2013 Campbell Hampton Inn of Holly Springs Invitational falling to the host Camels 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-12) and Georgetown (25-17, 25-9, 25-23).
During the two contests senior Kalin Russell and junior Ashley McCarthy led the Eagles offense with eight kills apiece while collecting three and four blocks, respectively, on the defensive end.
Junior Da'sha Brown and freshman Kelsey Murphy added an additional seven and six kills during the matchups while Murphy had12 digs for NCCU.
Junior setter Alice Genna distributed 22 assists on the day for the Eagles including 15 digs on the defensive end. four blocks.

Lady Bulldogs fall to Indiana
CHARLESTON, S.C.—The South Carolina State volleyball team fell to Indiana University, 3-0, (25-13, 25-22, 25-16), in their first match of the Hampton Inn/College of Charleston Invitational.
Junior Erica Pritchett had seven kills while seniors Desire Waller and Alyse Lewis each recorded six kills in the match for SC State, who fell to 0-4. Waller also had a team-high eight digs and Lewis put back a match-high four blocks (two solos-two assists) in the contest. Sophomore Melanie Williams put up 18 assists while freshmenAlexis Moses and Victoria Ferguson each picked up six digs in the contest.

Jerabova leads Hawks in 3-1 loss to Manhattan
FAIRFIELD, Conn.-Newcomer Petra Jerabkova made her Hawk debut for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in the teams' first match of the Sacred Heart University Invitational, taking on the Jaspers of Manhattan. While the Hawks fell 3-1, Jerabkova made an impression, coming up a dig shy of a triple double, posting 15 kills, 21 assists and nine digs.
Jinqiao Li picked up where she left off last weekend, again dominating defensively for the Hawks, picking up 28 digs. The net defense also had their best outing of the young season, out-blocking Manhattan, tallying 6.5 blocks and 13 block assists. Haley Robinson recorded four of those herself while adding six kills.
Ashley Smith was second on the team in kills, getting 12 and having her best attack numbers of the season, hitting .226 and adding 10 digs. She was outdone though by Moriah Brookins who killed seven balls on just 13 swings for a solid .538 percentage.

MSU’s Comeback Bid Falls Short In Five-Set Loss To Loyola Chicago
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Morgan State volleyball team nearly overcame a two-set deficit by forcing a fifth and decisive frame, before eventually falling to Loyola Chicago, 3-2 (19-25, 11-25, 25-23, 25-18, 10-15) in the opener of the East Carolina Classic at Minges Coliseum at Williams Center.
The non-conference match-up was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Ramblers (3-2) claimed the first two sets to jump out to a 2-0 lead, before Morgan State stormed back to even the match at 2-2. But in the end Loyola Chicago would have just enough in the fifth set to hold off Morgan’s comeback attempt and win the match.
Maureen Carls finished with a match-high 17 kills, while Brittany Brown recorded a match-high 37 assists to lead the Ramblers. Stephanie Kinane had a match-high 13 digs to go with six assists and Morgan Reardon added 10 digs.
