MEAC Announces Cross Country Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., September 4, 2013 – Morgan State senior Christian Smooth and Florida A&M sophomore Effiey Kosgei were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Smooth (Sr., Annapolis, Md.) was the individual winner at the Baltimore Metro Invitational with a time of 17:27.47 on the Goucher College 5K course. Smooth’s time guided Morgan State to a first-place finish out of six teams.

Kosgei (So., Eldoret, Kenya) finished second overall at the 110% Cross Country Invitational with a time of 18:49. Kosgei’s time led the Lady Rattlers to a second-place finish out of four teams.

Ricy Brown (B-CU)
captured first in the 5.1K Short Course in 17:15 at the Jacksonville Duals.

Michael James (CSU) placed fourth at the Baltimore Metro Invitational in his first collegiate meet.

Ashley Seymour (MSU) took second at the Baltimore Metro Invitational to help the Lady Bears to a third-place finish.

Kirsten Taylor (B-CU) finished third with a time of 14:40 at the Jacksonville Short Course Duals.
