NORFOLK, Va., September 30, 2013 – Hampton University junior Vendula Strakova was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week. Howard University freshman Katherine Broussard earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Strakova (RS, 6-0, Jr., Brno, Czech Republic) totaled 81 kills (6.75) and 40 digs (3.33) in helping the Lady Pirates to a perfect week. She registered two double-doubles of kills and digs, including 31 kills and 22 digs against William & Mary.
Broussard (OH, 5-7, Fr., Harvey, La.) finished with 14 kills, eight digs, three assists and two aces in a win over East Carolina. She hit .231 in the Bison’s lone match during the week.

Ginna Lopez-Chavez (FAMU) totaled 21 kills as the Lady Ratters won two matches during the week.
Assata Conway (Howard) finished with 16 kills in a win over East Carolina.
Victoria Ferguson (SCSU) registered 13 digs, including eight in a win over Bethune-Cookman.
Kendra Ireigbe (CSU) finished with seven kills and two blocks in a win over Morgan State.
Alex Irizarry (NSU) finished with seven digs, including five against Hampton.
Jessica Johnson (NSU) totaled 29 kills (4.14) and 21 digs (3.00) in a pair of matches.
Kelsey Murphy (NCCU) finished with 18 digs and seven kills in a four-set loss to NCAT.
Sonia Rosales (UMES) registered 38 assists and 10 digs in a win over Delaware State.
Kalin Russell (NCCU) finished with 13 digs and 10 kills in a four-set match against NCAT.
Rhea Simon (B-CU) totaled 28 kills and 12 digs, including 10 kills and 4 digs in a win over Savannah State.
Brooke Stamnes (NCAT) registered 26 digs and 25 kills in two matches, including 16 kills in a win over NCCU.
Alexas Thomas (B-CU) totaled 87 assists, including a season-high 43, in a loss at SCSU.
Desire Waller (SCSU) finished with 28 kills and 15 digs in a win over Bethune-Cookman.
