HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University junior rightside Vendula Strakova was named the Women’s Div. I National Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) is the first Hampton player ever to receive the honor.
Strakova was named MVP of the North Carolina Central Invitational this past weekend, leading the Lady Pirates to a 3-0 mark to start the season. She totaled 67 kills, six service aces, 37 digs, and 10.0 total blocks in 12 sets of action.
For the weekend, she hit .290.
Strakova, the MEAC Player of the Week, recorded double-digit kills in all three matches, including a season-high 26 on Saturday in a five-set win over Evansville. She also had a career-high 24 digs in the match for her first double-double of the season.
Strakova and the Lady Pirates will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to compete in the Boston College Invitational.
