Bethune-Cookman suffers setback against Stetson

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman dropped its third meeting of the season with Stetson Tuesday night as the Hatters posted a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16) decision in historic Moore Gym.

Tiffany Creamer had 13 kills and Kaley Melville 10 as the Hatters (11-5) won their fifth straight and handed the Lady Wildcats (1-14) their tenth straight set back.

Destiny Hudson and Phylecia Armstrong led B-CU with six kills each, followed by Delicia Pierre and Rhea Simon with five apiece. Alexas Thomas finished with 22 assists.

B-CU took a 6-1 second set lead before the Hatters tied it at 8-8 and used a 5-1 run to take a 13-9 lead.

Stetson scored six unanswered points to pull away from a 13-13 third set tie.

North Carolina A&T drops home match to Campbell

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In its final tuneup before MEAC play, the North Carolina A&T volleyball team lost to Campbell Tuesday night, 3-0 (25-23, 25-8, 25-19) at Moore Gymnasium. The Aggies (1-15) begin conference play at N.C. Central on Friday at 7 p.m.

Campbell (9-7) was led Lindsey Coats who had seven kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Katelyn Layden added nine kills for the Camels. 

NCAT, which lost a 20-15 lead in the first set, was led by sophomore Brooke Stamnes' nine kills and nine digs. Sophomore Ashley Johnson added 15 digs and sophomore Te'Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth finished with four total blocks.

Hampton opens home slate with thrilling win over William & Mary

HAMPTON, Va. – The last 17 times Hampton University and the College of William & Mary met on the volleyball court, the Tribe came away with the victory.

That all changed Tuesday night in Holland Hall.

The Lady Pirates opened their 2013 home slate in style, defeating William & Mary for the first time in program history, 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-7) with a late flurry after a tight, back-and-forth first four sets.

Junior rightside Vendula Strakova led the charge, tying her career high with 31 kills and tallying 22 digs on defense for her third straight double-double. She committed just eight errors in 66 total attacks to hit a team-best .348.

Junior outside hitter Krista Kraskura added 14 digs and eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Allysa Medina added a career-high nine kills. Senior libero Sheileen Pagan added 17 digs.

Senior setter Bibiany Fonseca recorded 50 assists, marking the fourth time this season she’s recorded at least 50 assists.
