Hampton women place third at William & Mary Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hampton University women’s cross country team finished third in the William & Mary Invitational at the Eastern State Hospital Course on Saturday morning.
The Lady Pirates finished with 82 points. Richmond won the team title with 21 points.
Senior Nichelle Harris led the Lady Pirates with an eighth-place finish after running the 5K course in 19:11.70. Senior Devyn Thompson ran a 20:16.50 to finish 22nd, while senior Ashley Armand was 27th after turning in a 21:02.50.
Senior Cydney Robinson ran a 21:14.30 to finish 28th.
Sophomore Kaylor Murray was 32nd after running a 21:37.20, while freshman Amanda Delacruz ran a 21:52.00 to finish 37th and freshman Tandeka Nunn was 38th with a time of 22:17.20.
Sophomore Ce’aira Brown ran a 31:10.30 to finish 43rd.
Tara Hanley of Richmond ran the best individual time with a 17:56.40.

Bears Notch Fifth Place Finish at Towson Invitational
TOWSON, Md. -- Morgan State's Christian Smooth ran a time of 27:11.29 during Saturday's Towson Invitational 8k meet to pace the Bears to a fifth-place team finish at Oregon Ridge park in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
Smooth posted a 12th place finish among 48 Division I men to complete the eight-mile course by posting a time of 27:11.29. Morgan State freshman Lenier Tucker finished in a time of 20:53.17 to place third.
Navy claimed the team title with a total of 35 points, followed by UNC-Wilmington (61 pts), College of Chareston (71 pts), Hofstra (83 pts) and Morgan State (144 pts. Coppin State (157 pts) and Bowie State (176 pts) finished in 6th and 7th place respectively. while Maryland-Eastern Shore (38) and Morgan State placed third and fourth, respectively.
Tucker placed 30th in a time of 29:34.33, in front of Nicolas Smith (34th – 31:22.05) and Onyx John son (39th – 33:52.20).

UMES takes two fourth-place finishes at Cappy Anderson Invitational
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore cross country teams hosted their second home meet of the season and the Hawks picked up two fourth-place team finishes. The women saw three runners place in the top-20 of the 5k, while the men's team had all five scoring runners place in the top-25 of the 8k.
Freshman Khalil Rmidi ran well at the event and took home the top UMES time with a sixth-place finish in 27:39.13. Freshman Derrick Cheruiyot was the next Hawk finisher in 15th (28:36.75), while freshman Nassor Whitehead made it three Hawks in the top-20 with a 29:07.52 finish.
The top-5 for the Hawks was rounded out by senior Paul Jerry in 23rd place with a time of 29:46.73 and senior Codjo Gbedo, who was 24th in 30:16.95. The men's team finished with 88 points altogether, nearly 50 points better than the closest team.
Freshman Rachel Halmon paced the women with a seventh-place time of 20:17.00. She was followed by sophomore Shantol Hemley and junior Margaret Wilmot-Francis, who took 15th and 17th, respectively. Hemley concluded the race in 21:27.30, while Wilmot-Francis finished in 21:32.70.
Sophomore Jheniel Kelly was 23rd in 21:57.10 as the fourth-finisher for the Lady Hawks. The last scoring runner for UMES was junior Annis Mars, who was 45th with a time of 26:42.30. The women's team posted 97 total points and bested two other Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schools at the event.
The race saw identical finishes for all schools in the top-5. Norfolk State swept the event with both of its teams claiming first-place and Seton Hall took home a pair of second-place finishes. Howard was third in both, while UMES secured two fourth-place finishes. Delaware State placed fifth in both and Coppin State was the sixth team in the women's race.
Norfolk State's Faith Summey won the women's race with a time of 19:00.90 and NSU's Damtew Adnew was the top men's harrier in 26:18.14.

Rattlers “A-Team” take second in the Georgia State Invitational
ATLANTA - The Florida A&M Men’s Cross Country A-Team scored 39 points as they finished second in the Georgia State Invitational, this past weekend on the campus of Georgia State.
Auburn University won the event as they scored 36 points. UT-Chattanooga finished third as they scored 58 points, followed by Mercer with a 96-point performance for a fourth place finish, while Troy University scored 121 points for a fifth place finish.
Ty McCormick of Auburn won the eight-K event with a time of 25:20.64.
FAMU had four top 10 finishers with Geoffrey Sambu taking fourth place with a time of 25:43.56, followed by Danny Cheruiyot, who finished fifth with a time of 25:52.25. Kevin Marindich grabbed a seventh place finish with a time of 26:39.56, while Elias Chesire took eighth with a time of 28:25.32.
Dieumy Duclos and Robyel Kidane rounded out the cast of FAMU finishers as Duclos finished with a time of 28:25.32 and Kidane with a time of 30:43.45.
