Hampton drops match to UTEP in four sets
EL PASO, Texas – The Hampton University volleyball team dropped its match against Texas-El Paso on Saturday afternoon, as the Miners beat the Lady Pirates 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 25-18) at Memorial Gym.
Junior right side Vendula Strakova led the way with 25 kills, hitting a team-best .367 for the match thanks to just seven errors in 49 attacks. She also had 10 digs on defense for her eighth double-double of the season.
Strakova added a team-high four service aces.
Senior setter Bibiany Fonseca had 35 of Hampton’s 41 assists, while senior libero Sheileen Pagan had a team-high 14 digs on defense.
Taylor Nix led three UTEP players in double figures with 17 kills.

North Carolina A&T suffers setbacks at High Point Classic
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Jillian Nobles, Brooke Stamnes and Te’Borah Hawkins-Hllingsworth each recorded seven kills for the North Carolina A&T volleyball team who dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-19) decision to Davidson and followed that with a 3-0 loss to Murray State.
In the opener against Davidson, Liz Martino (14) and Chelsea Fox (10) both finished in double-figures in assists for the Aggies. It marks the third time this season that Martino and Fox have tallied double-digit assists in the same match. Ashley Johnson recorded 14 digs.
Against Murray State, Stamnes, who was named to the All-Tournament team, recorded 11 kills. Johnson had 23 digs to lead all players and Martino tallied 24 assists. Jillian Nobles also finished with seven kills.

Pierre named to All-Tournament team as B-CU concludes tournament with pair of losses
ROCK HILL, S.C. - - Delicia Pierre was named to the Winthrop Invitational All-Tournament team Saturday after the Lady Wildcats concluded play with 3-0 losses to The Citadel and UNC-Wilmington.
The sophomore had 26 kills and 24 digs in three tournament matches.
Against The Citadel, Rhea Simon had eight kills and 10 digs, while Phylecia Armstrong added seven and Pierre and Destiny Hudson six apiece as the Lady Cats dropped a 25-20,25-14,25-17 decision. Setter Alexas Thomas had a double-doubled with 23 assists and 13 digs.
UNC-Wilmington (11-3) racked up 18 services aces as it posted a 25-11,25-12,26-24 decision. Pierre had eight kills and 11 digs, followed by Simon with seven and Lauren Turner and Hudson with four each.

Hawks fall to unbeaten Bufalo
BUFFALO, N.Y.—Rebounding from a tough outing yesterday against 13th-ranked Ohio State, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) came to play against the tournament host and undefeated University at Buffalo, but it was too tough of a hill to climb as the Hawks fell 3-0 (25-23, 2515, 25-16).
In the opener, Lauren Berry led the Hawk offense with seven kills on 17 swings to hit an efficient .235. She would add a block assist, part of just two blocks for UMES. Petra Jerabkova continued her solid play, adding six kills to go along with nine assists, an ace, four digs and a block assist.
UMES got solid defense again from Jingqiao Li who had a match high 19 digs to go along with four assists. Sonia Rosales led UMES in that category, dishing out 14.

Waller earns third All-Tournament team honor as SCSU drops pair at 49er Invitational
CHARLOTTE - South Carolina State continued to show improvement but fell short on the final day of the 49er Invitational which was hosted by UNC-Charlotte. Senior Desire Waller earned her third all-tournament team honor of the season.
In their first match of the day, SC State fell to Elon, 3-0, (25-19, 25-11, 25-18). The Lady Bulldogs were led by Waller with eight kills and 10 digs. Senior Taylor Bailey had three service aces while sophomore Melanie Williams put up 15 set assists in the match. Elon was led by Kris Harris with a match-high 12 kills. The Phoenix had two players to finish with double-digit digs as Maggie Reichard and Cali Estes picked up 11 and 10, respectively.
In its second match of the day, SC State battled Tennessee State from start to finish. The Tigers would come out victorious, winning the match, 3-0, (25-23, 25-20, 25-18).
Waller once again led the way for SC State, recording a double-double, 13 kills-10 digs. Freshman Victoria Ferguson picked up 12 digs for the Lady Bulldogs who dropped to 0-13 on the season.

SSU closes out Radford Classic with pair of losses
RADFORD, Va. - In the second and final day of the Radford Classic, the Savannah State volleyball team dropped matches to Tulane and Radford.
Against Tulane, SSU senior Asiha Williams was named to the Radford Classic All-Tournament team. Williams racked up five kills and 13 digs in the two-day, three-game tournament. Bianca Brochu and senior Bryana Gadis led the Lady Tigers with five kills apiece. Caitlynn Masoe and senior Bridgette Stephens led SSU on defense with seven digs apiece.
In a rematch of Friday's game, and SSU's first in the tournament, the Lady Tigers fell to Radford in three sets in Saturday's nightcap.
The story remained the same in the final set as SSU dropped the match with a 12-25 score Brochu, Gadis and Christian Lyle each had two kills in the set.
The trio led the team overall in the final stats with four kills apiece. Stephens led in digs with seven.

Hornets come up empty at Temple Tournament
PHILADELPHIA --- Delaware State University fell to Brown (1-3) and Hofstra (0-3) to go winless in three matches at the Temple University Tournament this weekend.
The Hornets were upended by Brown 24-26, 27-25, 20-25 and 22-25.
Jasmine Jackson led the Hornets with 19 kills and added 10 digs. Jessica Russell-Croucher contributed 15 kills and 10 digs. She was named to the Temple University All-Tournament Team.
Four DSU players had 10-or-more digs, led by Natalia Mendieta’s 14. Mendieta also had a career-high 36 assists in the match.
Delaware State fell to Hofstra 25-9, 25-21 and 30-28.

Howard tops Saint Francis, but falls to Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- Howard took the Ninth Annual Friars Classic title after winning two-of-three games during the two-day event on the campus of Providence College.
HU's first game on Saturday pitted them against St. Francis Brooklyn, whom the Lady Bison defeated in a 5-set thriller two weeks prior in New York. The Terriers would take the first set but Howard would regain composure and easily take the next three sets and the match, 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-12). Broussard and junior Meagan Lagerlef each had 12 kills, with Katherine Broussard adding 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Assata Conway put away 10 attacks and posted the best attack percentage of the three players with 10+ kills (.600; 10-1-15). Stephanie Shultis had another 37 assists and Allyson Lods tied Broussard's team lead with 12 digs.
The Lady Bison's lone setback came in the Classic's final matchup against the host Friars, falling to Providence, 3-1. The trio of Broussard (12 kills), Conway (11) and Harrison (10) accounted for 33 of Howard's 46 kills. Lods finished with another 10 digs and Shultis had 35 assists.
Shultis earned Friars Classic Tournament MVP honors and Broussard joined her on the All-Tournament team.
