Manhattan Halts Lady Bison's Winning Streak At Six

RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- The Howard University volleyball team’s impressive six-game winning streak came to an end Thursday evening as the Lady Bison dropped a three-set road matchup against Manhattan College at Draddy Gymnasium.


Freshman Katherine Broussard paced Howard (8-4) on the night with seven kills, while junior Stephanie Shultis, junior Destinee Harrison and freshman Dominique Cleggett each added six kills. Shultis served up 30 of HU's 36 assists while hitting .500 on attacks (6-1-10), and junior Allyson Lods picked up 13 digs for the Bison, who had an advantage in digs against Manhattan (6-6), 51-45.  As a team, Howard hit .134 (37-22-112) in the match.

Coppin State drops pair against Cal State Northridge and third-ranked Washington

SEATTLE -- Junior Ariel Richard had 10 kills, but Cal State Northridge hit .311 and defeated Coppin State 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 in the opening match on Thursday at Alaska Airlines on the campus of the University of Washington.


Richard had 10 kills, four digs and recorded a .107 attack percentage to lead the Eagles.

Cindy Okpegbue had nine kills and posted a .240 attack percentage, while Kandace Thomas had six kills and a .385 hitting percentage.

Gabrielle Otero had 11 digs, while Morgan Haynes had eight digs and Chelsee Sauni added seven digs. Sauni also had 26 assists while directing the CSU offense.

In the second match, Coppin State fell to third-ranked Washington, 25-4, 25-11, 25-18.

Washington native Kendra Ireigbe had two kills and a block and Okpegbue led Coppin State with six kills, while Thomas added five kills.
