NSU closes out Spartan Classic with win over UMES
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State got a measure of revenge and capped off the Spartan Classic with another solid performance, defeating UMES 3-0 at Joseph Echols Hall.
A day after taking care of former MEAC Southern Division foe Bethune-Cookman, the Spartans handled the Hawks, the defending MEAC champions, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18.
It was a big match for the Spartans, who were looking to take down UMES after the Hawks knocked off NSU in a five-set thriller a year ago. That loss in Norfolk eventually prevented Norfolk State from winning a share of the MEAC Northern Division title.

Senior Goda Jankauskaite added 11 kills on just 15 swings and hit .667 for the match, the best hitting percentage by a Spartan player with at least 10 kills in the last four years.
Jankauskaite was one of seven players to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. She joined teammate Jessica Johnson, Delicia Pierre of Bethune-Cookman, Petra Jerabkova and Haley Robinson of UMES and Taylor Cannon and Amanda Videmsek of Charlotte. Videmsek just edged out her teammate for MVP honors.
Robinson led UMES with five kills and five blocks.
