NORFOLK, Va., September 11, 2013 – Norfolk State freshman David Kibet and Morgan State graduate student Ashley Seymour were selected the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Kibet (Fr., Iten, Kenya) was the individual winner at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational with a time of 15:46.02. Kibet’s time guided Norfolk State to a first-place finish, out of five teams, on the 5K course.
Seymour (Grad., Washington, D.C.) improved her time this season by nearly a minute in winning the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational with a time of 18:42.55. She helped lead Morgan State to a first-place finish, out of four teams.
Other Top Performers:
Amber Brooks (NCCU) finished first with a time of 22:54.74 at the Eagle/Aggie Cross Country Classic.
Ricy Brown (B-CU) led the Wildcats to a 2nd-place finish, by taking third, at the Bobby Lang Invitational.
Kestsia Dornevil (DSU) led the Lady Hornets with a ninth-place over time finish at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational.
Rachel Halmon (UMES) finished 12th in her first collegiate race at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational.
Nichelle Harris (HAM) took 25th at the Spider Alumni Open in helping the Lady Pirates to a 5th-place finish.
Je’Von Hutchinson (HAM) placed 54th at the Spider Alumni Open with a time of 16:47.00.
Effiey Kosgel (FAMU) led the Lady Ratters for the second straight week, taking first with a time of 19:22.07.
Kevin Marindich (FAMU) won the Bobby Lang Invitational, with a time of 16:35.45.
Nyajock Pan (B-CU) finished fifth in her second collegiate meet at the Bobby Lang Invitational.
Khalil Rmidi Kinini (UMES) raced in his first collegiate meet, taking eighth with a time of 16:43.07, at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational.
Faith Summey (NSU) took third at the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational with a time of 19:25.82.
