Coppin State picks up first win of season

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Cindy Okpegbue tied her career high with 14 kills and Denali Sturgeon added a career-high 11 kills as Coppin State posted its first victory of the 2013 season with a 26-24, 25-23, 30-28 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) on the final day of the Hofstra Asics Invitational.

Coppin State, which lost its first match of the day to Siena 25-14, 19-25, 25-15, 25-19, finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.

Okpegbue had 14 kills and hit .455, while Sturgeon had 11 kills, five digs and three blocks to lead the Eagles.

Three Coppin State players reached double figures in digs led by Gabrielle Otero who had 16. Nicole Malave added 12 and Chelsee Sauni chipped in with 10 as the Eagles led in digs 48-34.
