Men's Cross Country Recap: August 31

Smooth Leads Bears with First-Place Finish

TOWSON, Md. (Aug. 31, 2013) - Morgan State kicked off the 2013 cross country season on Saturday with a first-place finish at the Baltimore Metro Invitational meet, hosted by Towson University.
 
The Bears won the meet by finishing with 20 points, while fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Coppin State had 39 points. Goucher and McDaniel totaled 41 points apiece, followed by Hood with 56 points and Stevenson with 85 points.
 
Morgan State was led by Christian Smooth, who captured the individual title with a winning time of 17:27.47. Harold Lamour placed third with a time of 17:49.53, while Lenier Tucker (17:58.77) and Onyx Johnson (18:40.43) posted fourth and fifth place, respectively.

James takes fourth to lead Coppin State

BALTIMORE - Coppin State's Michael James finished fourth overall leading the Eagles to a second-place finish at the season opening Baltimore Metro Invitational on Saturday at Goucher College.

James completed the 5k course in a time of 17:33.14 to earn his fourth-place finish. Christian Smooth of Morgan State won the event in a time of 17:27.47, while Chris Jones of McDaniel placed third and Peter Merkel finished third.

Alaric Coker also had a strong showing for the Eagles as he placed 14th overall in a time of 18:44.89.
