SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State women’s basketball program released the 2013-14 schedule this afternoon. The Lady Tigers will open the year with an exhibition game against Armstrong Atlantic State on October 31.
The Lady Tigers open the road portion of the schedule against Baylor University in the Athletes In Action Classic, on November 21 in Waco, Texas.
Along with the Lady Bears, SSU will also play the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Northwestern State in the tournament.
Baylor was the first team in NCAA Division I history to win 40 games in a season after an 80-61 victory over Notre Dame in the 2012 NCAA Women’s Final Four.
Prior to heading too Texas, SSU will host Columbia College on November 8 and Charleston Southern on November 16 in Tiger Arena.
After a quick visit to Starkville, Miss., to play Mississippi State on November 26, the Lady Tigers head to South Orange, New Jersey for the Seton Hall Tournament November 29-30.
The tournament opens a six game road stretch for the Lady Tigers with matches against Longwood (Dec. 15), Charleston Southern (Dec. 19), Alabama State (Dec. 22), and final the University of South Carolina on December 27.
SSU returns home on December 29 to host Troy University.
The Lady Tigers open the new year with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Savannah on January 4.
The Lady Tigers play one more home game, Trinity Baptist (Jan. 6), before two road MEAC games. SSU will travel to Baltimore, Md., for a conference match-up with Coppin State on January 11, and then down to Washington, D.C. to play Howard on January 13.
SSU will return to Tiger Arena for four straight home MEAC games in January against Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Hampton University, and Howard University.
The team will be on the road for most of February, with the exception of home MEAC games against North Carolina A&T (Feb. 15), and North Carolina Central (Feb. 17).
The Lady Tigers will play their final game and final home game of the regular season against South Carolina State University on March 6.
The 2013-14 season will be the 83rd year of SSU women’s basketball. Head coach Cedric Baker will be entering his 21st year of coaching and his 11th at Savannah State.
