PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore head cross country coach Ernest Barrett has announced his 2013 cross country schedule and it shows attention to making a statement locally and regionally.
"We want to concentrate on running on our own course to get ready for the MEAC Championships and running against those teams on a regular basis," said Barrett.
UMES will open the home athletic season for the Hawks on September 7 when they host the annual UMES Lid-Lifter. The following week they travel to Dover, Del., to attend the DSU Hornet Invitational. Maryland Eastern Shore comes home again the next weekend, September 21, to host the annual UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational, named after the late Hall of Fame coach from the school.
The Hawks head back to Dover on October 5 to attend the DSU Farm Run Invitational. They stay in the first state the following week to run in Newark, Del., at the UD Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware.
After a week off, the Hawks come back home to Princess Anne on October 26th where UMES will host the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships for the fifth straight year.
UMES concludes the year at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet in Bethlehem, Pa., on November 15 before starting the indoor track and field season in December.
