MEAC ANNOUNCES 2013 SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS SEEDINGS

NORFOLK, Virginia - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its 2013 Softball Championship Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach Florida.  The Hampton University Lady Pirates and the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats finished as division leaders and will enter tournament play as the number one seeds.

Hampton clinched the northern division title after defeating local rival Norfolk State 2-of-3 games last weekend.  The Lady Pirates finished atop of the standing in the north with a 16-2 MEAC record and 30-23 overall mark.

The defending MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats earned the top seed in the south with an 11-3 conference record and 17-33 overall finish.  B-CU has won the tournament title for three straight years, eight overall. 

Norfolk State finished 15-3 in the north to secure the No. 2 seed.  Delaware State recorded a 12-6 mark to receive the No. 3 seed followed by Coppin State, which clinched the fourth and final spot in the northern division.

Florida A&M clinched the second seed in the south followed by Savannah State (3rd) and North Carolina A&T (4th).

The 2013 MEAC Softball Championship tournament gets underway Thursday, May 9 beginning at 10 a.m. 

Bethune-Cookman (S1) will face Coppin State (N4) while Hampton (N1) will meet North Carolina A&T (S4) in the first games of the day.  Games three and four will include Norfolk State

The championship finale is set for Saturday, May 11 beginning at 1 p.m.
