LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hampton University pitcher Jailynn Jackson was named Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region by the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) when the 2013 Division I All-Region teams were announced on Thursday.
She is the lone player from the MEAC to be recognized by the NFCA.
Jackson was named MEAC Pitcher of the Year after leading the Lady Pirates to a 34-24 overall record, the MEAC Northern Division regular-season title, and the program’s first MEAC Tournament crown since 1996.
The First Team All-MEAC selection also led the MEAC in wins (26), ERA (2.49), and strikeouts (248). Jackson, who was also named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team, set a new program single-season record for strikeouts, breaking the old mark of 246 set by Tara Midgett in 1995.
She has also set the program record for most innings pitched in a season (241.1), starts (37), and appearances (45), and she is also tied for second in program history in wins in single season, and her 25 complete games are tied for sixth-most in a single season in program history.
Jackson has recorded at least five strikeouts in 28 of her 45 appearances so far this season, and Jackson recorded 25 strikeouts in four games in the MEAC Tournament. Jackson has struck out double-digit batters five times so far this season, including a career-high 13 at Towson on March 13.
Her 368 career strikeouts are the fifth-highest total in program history.
