MEAC ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL WEEKLY HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State freshman Chloe Ore earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Shanel Tolbert was named Pitcher of the Week and Savannah State’s Amanda McDowell earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Ore (INF, 5-4, Fr., San Pedro, Calif.) batted .588 (10-for-17) with one triple, one double, seven RBI, and 10 runs along with five stolen bases to aid the Hornets to a 5-0 record last week. She hit a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in an 8-5 win over Morgan State.

Tolbert (P, 5-6, Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.) posted a 1.15 ERA and struck out 12 batters for a 3-1 record on the week for the Lady Wildcats. The junior pitched her first career no-hitter in an 8-0 win to capture a series sweep of South Carolina State.

McDowell (P, 5-11, Fr., Cheney, Wash.) pitched a complete game to lead Savannah State over North Carolina Central, 5-1. The rookie tallied a 0.00 ERA, allowing three hits while striking out six batters

Simone Caesar (B-CU) was perfect from the plate (1-for-1) with a run and an RBI in an 8-0 win over South Carolina State.

Kimberly Fontaine (MSU) hit .666 (2-for-3) with one double, two RBI, and one run in a 5-8 loss at Delaware State.

Vanessa Gomez (UMES) went 3-for-5 (.600) with two doubles, two runs, and one RBI to lead the Lady Hawks to a 9-6 win over Norfolk State.

Brielle Gordon (FAMU) tripled, scored and drove in an RBI in a .500 (2-for-4) effort for the Lady Rattlers in a 4-9 loss to North Carolina A&T.

Carmen Gurrola (UMES) pitched a complete game allowing 11 hits and striking out nine in a 9-6 win over Norfolk State.

Madison Heddlery (SSU) finished the week with a 1.50 ERA in two complete game wins over North Carolina Central last week.

Mikala Johnson (SCSU) went 3-for-4 (.750) with a stolen base in a 3-4 loss to Bethune-Cookman.

Jennifer Lindsey (FAMU) pitched a complete game shutout while allowing four hits to lead the Lady Rattlers to a 5-0 victory over North Carolina A&T.

Taylor McDougall (MSU) went 3-for-3 (1.000) with a homerun, one double, two runs, and two RBI in a 5-8 loss at Delaware State.

Jamie Schulle (NSU) pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief while striking out six to aid the Spartans to a 8-5 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Danielle Smith (CSU) batted .800 (4-for-5) with two RBI and a run in a 7-6 win over Howard.

Haley Ward (NSU) hit two home runs with three RBI and two runs in a 6-9 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Whitney Williams (NSU) went 2-for-4 (.500) with a home run, one run, and one RBI to lead Norfolk State to a 4-3 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Torrian Wright (SSU) was .500 (2-for-4) with two home runs and three RBI in a 7-4 win over North Carolina Central.

Gabriel Ziller (CSU) hit a home run, collected five runs, and five RBI to aid the Lady Eagles to three wins over Howard.
