Norfolk State To Take On Hampton On ESPNU

NORFOLK, Va.- The Norfolk State Spartans will take on the Hampton Lady Pirates during a nationally televised broadcast Saturday, May 4 on ESPNU. The game will air live from the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium in Hampton, Virginia beginning at 2 p.m. EST.

The broadcast marks the eighth consecutive season the MEAC has televised a softball game on the college sports network.

Norfolk State (13-17) is currently 6-0 in MEAC play. Haley Ward, the 2013 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, leads the Spartans with five triples, eight doubles and 23 RBI. In 63 appearances at the plate, Ward, has tallied 35 hits and a .556 batting average. Junior Jamie Schulle is 10-9 in the circle with 73 strikeouts in 96.1 innings.

The Hampton Lady Pirates are 18-19 overall and 5-1 in MEAC play. Freshman Taylor McCoy leads the team with a .407 batting average, including 22 runs, three home runs, two triples and 10 doubles in 36 games. Sophomore Jailyn Jackson is 13-8 this season with a 3.11 ERA in 139.2 innings of play.

The 2013 MEAC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 9-11, 2013 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, in Ormond Beach, Florida.  The top four teams in each division will compete against one another in the double elimination tournament.
