NORFOLK, Va. - South Carolina State's Anton Protsenko and Maria Craciun were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Friday. South Carolina State teammates Klara Dohnalova and Jiri Stiburek were named the Women’s and Men's Rookies of the Week, respectively.
Protsenko (Sr., Kuiv, Ukraine) posted a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the number two position in conference singles play against Florida A&M’s Chidi Gabriel. The victory helped South Carolina State pull out a 4-3 win over FAMU last week.
Craciun (Sr., Pitesti, Romania) posted a win at the number one singles position 6-2, 6-2 in a conference victory against Florida A&M. She also teamed with Klara Dohnalova to capture the doubles point 8-3.
Dohnalova (Fr., Trinec, Czech Republic) earned a 6-0, 1-0 victory due to retirement against Florida A&M at the number three singles position. She partnered with Maria Craciun for a second victory as the pair won 8-3 at the number one doubles position.
Stiburek (Fr., Prici Nad Sazavou, Czech Republic) recorded a straight set win over Takura Happy of Florida A&M in singles play at the number four spot (6-3, 6-2). He partnered with Tomas Bizon to capture an 8-6 victory in the number three doubles position.
Other Top Performers:
Iakovelva (MSU) partnered with Margarita Belyakova at the number one doubles position and earned an 8-6 victory over Georgetown.
Robin Riethmueller (NSU) won in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) for a singles victory against Delaware.
Stacey Roheman (Howard) picked up two conference singles wins as well as two doubles wins.
Jayla Scott (NCAT) battled in a 6-4, 6-0 loss to UNC Asheville’s Emily McNall at the number two singles position.
Kimberly Scott (NCAT) took UNC Asheville’s Ericka Rivero to three sets at the number one singles position.
Katelyn Stokes (Howard) had two singles victories in conference play as well as a doubles win.
Dzmitry Zyhmantovich (NSU) was 2-2 last week including a single and doubles win against Delaware.
