Lady Tigers Close Out 2013 Season; Honor Seniors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Prior to playing their final game of the 2013 season the Savannah State women’s tennis team honored three seniors in pregame ceremonies. The Lady Tigers fell to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival Bethune-Cookman, 0-7 in their final match.

Junior Sandra Kristjansdottir, who is graduating early, battled Chinatsu Kajiwara in the number one court, falling 4-6 and 2-6.

Senior Esmira Gheisary led Valentia Beresinita 4-3 in the first set on the second court, but fell 6-4 as Beresinita rallied. Gheisary dropped the match after losing the second set 3-6.

Playing in the fifth court, senior Davita Washington fell to Victoria Galyaeva 2-6 and 3-6. Newcomer Andrea Pavlovic dropped the first set 2-6 to Gaby Chinchilla, but battled hard in the second set forcing an extra point situation. Chinchilla captured the match with a 7-5 win over Pavlovic.

In the fourth court, Nicole Ashiedu force the second set to an extra point after falling to Maria Dimitrova 4-6 in the first set. Ashiedu fell, 5-7, in the second set, dropping the match to Dimitrova. In the sixth court, freshman Tiffany Williams fell, 1-6 and 0-6, to Laura Rodriguez.

Bethune-Cookman captured a point after winning all three doubles positions. Kristjansdottir and Ashiedu fell to Chinchilla and Peterson-Paul 3-8 in the first courts.

Playing in the second court, Gheisary and Pavlovic dropped a close, 6-8, decision to the Cookman team of Anica Ifill and Beresinita. In the final double’s court, Washington and Williams fell, 1-8, to Galyaeva and Rodriguez.

The Lady Tigers end the 2013 season with a 2-14 overall record and a 0-6 mark in the MEAC.
