Raleigh, N.C., April 20, 2013- The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Florida A&M Rattlers will face off in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Championship final beginning at Noon on the Millbrook Tennis Center courts.
The top seeded Bulldogs defeated fourth seeded Bethune-Cookman 4-0 to earn a spot in tomorrow’s finals. South Carolina State captured wins at the number one and three doubles positions to take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play the Bulldogs earned points at the number one and three positions to pull within a point of taking the match. South Carolina State’s Jiri Stiburek defeated the Wildcats Moritz Pronath 6-3, 6-2 at the number five spot to earn the winning point.
The Bulldogs will vie for their sixth consecutive and 12th overall MEAC title.
In the second men's semifinal, the No. 2 Florida A&M Rattlers defeated the No. 3 Norfolk State Spartans 4-0. Florida A&M took the lead taking two-of-three doubles matches, winning the number one (8-4) and three (8-2) spots.
The Rattlers recorded wins in singles competition at the number five and six positions. FAMU's C. Salif Kante defeated Dimitry Zyhmantovich 6-4, 6-4 to guide the Rattlers to their fourth consecutive championship appearance.
