Morgan State’s Duk Young-Park and Ekaterina Iakovelva were chosen as the MEAC Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Teammate Chelsi Russell earned Women’s Rookie of the Week accolades.
Young-Park (So.,Silver Spring, Md.) was 3-0 in singles play at the number one position, with victories over Coppin State, Howard and William & Mary. He also teamed with Eric Ward to post a 1-1 mark in doubles action.
Iakovelva (Jr., Vladivostok, Russia) won four matches in straight sets at the number one spot against Coppin State, Hartford Community College, Howard and George Washington. She also partnered with Jasmine Edwards to post a 3-1 record in doubles play.
Russell (Fr., Nassau, Bahamas) combined for a 6-2 mark at the No. 3 singles position and No. 1 doubles spot. She clinched the conference win for Lady Bears over Howard with a 7-6, 7-5 victory and partnered with Mi’Kola Copper in the doubles wins.
Other Top Performers:
Gaby Chinchilla (B-CU) topped Marist’s Kaye Eastman 6-1, 6-1 and posted the doubles win 9-8 last week.
Takeyrah Reid (NCAT) won her second match of the year with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Shaw’s Menel Bencheikh.
