Howard senior Kara Smith notched a season-high 22 points as Howard fell 65-60 to Pennsylvania in the opening round of the 2013 Women’s Basketball Invitational.
Along with Smith's team-high 22 points, senior Cheyenne Curley-Payne posted a team-best 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
Collectively, Howard shot 63 percent from the free-throw line (12-19), 53 percent from three-point range (8-15) and 38-percent the field (20-53).
Howard opened up with a 10-1 lead by the 16:01 mark. Penn came back and went on an 11-2 to tie the contest.
The Lady Bison made a strong run at the 2:37 mark, when Smith ignited a 6-0 run to bring the game to within two in the second half.
Penn went on to score a jumper and a free-throw to secure a second-round WBI appearance and a 65-60 win.
Howard concludes the 2012-13 season with a record of 20-12 overall, 14-5 in conference play, 10-3 at home, and 10-9 on the road.
