MEAC Announces All-Conference Honors

Maryland Eastern Shore's Anggie Ramirez was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Player of the Year as announced by the conference on Friday. North Carolina A&T rookie Emily Strombeck was named the Rookie of the Year while Norfolk State head coach Wilhelmenia Harrison earned Coach of the Year accolades.  All awards were voted on by the conference's head bowling coaches and sports information directors. 

Ramirez guided the No. 3 Lady Hawks to a 27-3 mark in conference play and 101-21 overall record en route to the fourth northern divisional title. The senior totaled a 10,233 pinfall and averaged a 213.2 in 48 games. Ramirez bowled a season-high 279 at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic and competed in 52 Baker games. The six-time MEAC Bowler of the Week earned Tournament MVP honors twice this season. 

Strombeck tallied a 190.8 averaged in 38 games during her rookie campaign. She recorded a 7,252 total pinfall and notched a season-high 237 at the Capital Classic. Strombeck led her team in pinfall and average. As a team, the Lady Aggies will compete in their first MEAC Championship tournament since 2008-09.  

In her eighth season at the helm, Harrison guided the Spartans to an 57-29 regular season record and 21-3 mark in MEAC play. The Spartans won their fourth southern divisional title and are currently ranked 11th in the nation by the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA). This is the third straight year that Harrison has garnered Coach of the Year accolades. 

Joining Ramirez on the All-MEAC First-Team is teammate T’nia Falbo. Staci Hilliard of Bethune-Cookman, Thea Aspiras of Norfolk State, and Morgan State’s Atoya Leatherbury complete the first-team selections.

The 2013 MEAC Bowling Championship begins Friday, March 22 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Virginia at 8:30 a.m. Team will compete in traditional games to determine seeding for day two action.

 Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series. The championship concludes on Sunday, March 24 beginning with the semifinal round at 9:50 a.m. and concluding with the championship final at 11:45 a.m.

The championship finale will air tape-delayed on ESPNU on April 1 at 10:30 p.m.
