The MEAC will host its 2013 MEAC Bowling Championship, March 22-24, at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Virginia. The tournament begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
Delaware State, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State qualified from the northern division, while Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T will compete from the southern division.
Maryland Eastern Shore, the two-time defending NCAA Champion, captured their fourth northern divisional title with 27-3 mark in MEAC play. The Lady Hawks posted a conference record of 14-1 in team games and 13-2 in Baker play in their division to secure the title.
The reigning MEAC champion Norfolk State Spartans finished atop of divisional play for the third straight year with a 21-3 record en route to the southern crown to clinch the title. The Spartans were 11-1 in team play and 10-2 in Baker games during southern division action this season.
Only the top four teams from each division are eligible to compete in the championship tournament. Howard (44-62), Coppin State (2-58), and North Carolina Central (36-51) were eliminated from postseason play.
The tournament begins tomorrow with a qualifying round of traditional play to determine seeding. The action continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series at 8:30 a.m. in a bracket format.
The 2013 MEAC Bowling Championship will conclude on Sunday, March 23 beginning with the semifinal round at 10 a.m. and concluding with the championship final. The championship finale will air tape-delayed on ESPNU on Monday, April 1 at 10:30 p.m.
