MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

Savannah State freshman Michaela Patton earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball for games played March 4-10, the conference announced on Wednesday.  Hampton’s Jailynn Jackson was named Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Diamond Ponds earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Patton (SS, 5-4, Fr., Auburn, Wash.) batted .830 (5-for-6) with two doubles, five runs and five RBI in two victories over Norfolk State.  In game one of the double-header, Patton hit 3-for-4 with one double and two RBI along with three assists and one putout.  She was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) in the second game with her second double of the week along with three RBI and two walks.  She added three putouts and one assist in the 12-7 victory. 

Jackson (P, 5-8, So., Virginia Beach, Va.) finished 2-1 with wins over Central Connecticut State and Canisius last week.  She pitched 21.0 innings with an ERA of 1.00 allowing just three earned runs, seven walks and striking out 21 of the 89 batters faced.

Ponds (OF, 5-0, Fr., Riverside, Calif.) aided the Pirates to three wins last week as she batted .444 from the plate with four hits and two RBI. She also tallied two stolen bases. Ponds hit perfectly from the plate against Canisius (2-for-2) with one triple and one run in the 4-1 win.  Defensively she added seven putouts.

Other Top Performers

Belen Benitez (UMES) cleared the bases with a three RBI triple as the Hawks recorded its most runs in one inning in five years en-route to an 11-4 win over Siena. 

London Booker (NCCU) struck out 13 batters in 18.0 innings and allowed only eight runs for an ERA of 3.11 in three games last week.

Chelsea Davis (NSU) batted .500 with two homeruns and four RBI in three games last week. 

Heather Dunning (NSU) hit .529 in six games with nine hits and four RBI along with one stolen base for the Spartans last week.

Madison Hedderly (SSU) posted a pair of wins over Norfolk State with an ERA of 3.18 including 17 strikeouts and one walk. 

Amber Kirkland (NCCU) recorded a .417 batting average with one double and two RBI along with 13 putouts and one assist in four games for the Lady Eagles.
