MEAC Announces Tennis Weekly Honors

Morgan  State's Duk Young-Park and North Carolina Central’s Ekaterina Nekrasova were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week for matches played March 4-10, the conference announced on Tuesday. North Carolina Central teammate Aissa Muamba received Women's Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State’s Robin Riethmueller was named Men's Rookie of the Week.  

Young-Park (So., Silver Spring, Md.) topped Niagara’s Michael Elortegui 6-3, 6-4 for a singles win and teamed with Eric Ward in number one doubles action against Oliver Dufour-Coursol and David Raymond.

Nekrasova (So., Severodvinsk, Russia) posted an undefeated week with three victories at the number two singles position and three wins in doubles action as the Lady Eagles topped Savannah State, UNC-Asheville and Western Carolina. Nekrasova partnered with Rebecca Wood for all three doubles victories.

Muamba (Fr., Laval, Canada) claimed a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win against Western Carolina’s Nicole Nielly for her third singles victory of the week. She also earned an 8-1 doubles match victory against Savannah State.

Riethmueller (Fr., Balingen, Germany) earned a 7-5, 6-4 win against Florida A&M and a 6-1, 6-2 win against Benedict in singles play. He added an 8-1 number one doubles victory with teammate Igor Braga, defeating Benedict’s Zibusiso Ndimande and Shane Latchman.

Other Top Performers:

Mi’Kola Cooper (MSU) recorded a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win at the number two singles spot against Niagara.

Laura Gutierrez (NSU) helped the Spartans sweep Benedict, winning a singles contest 6-0, 6-0 and teaming with Yvonne Kamegne for an 8-1 doubles victory.

Ekaterina Iakovelva (MSU) had a combined 2-0 week as she defeated Niagara’s Hikary Hansen 6-1, 6-3 in singles play and partnered with Jasmine Edwards for an 8-4 number two doubles win.
