Spartans Take Down Christopher Newport, 6-1

Norfolk State picked up its second consecutive win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Christopher Newport on Friday afternoon at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va.

NSU improved to 2-3 overall while CNU dropped to 0-1 on the season.

In the doubles matches, sophomore Igor Braga and freshman Robin Riethmueller earned an 8-5 victory over Chiraag Shetty and Kyle Tobin at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 position, junior Peter Rastromer-Pello and freshman Dzmitry Zyhmantovich defeated Will Sloan and Robbie Wagner, 8-5.  NSU clinched the doubles point after the win by Ramstromer-Pello and Zyhmantovich so the No. 3 match with sophomores Shaheed Mourillon-Swift and Daniel Grauel against Joey Manilla and Lloyd Luck was abandoned at 6-6.

At the No. 2 singles spot, Zyhmantovich defeated Tobin, 6-2, 6-2. Riethmueller competed at the No. 3 position where he posted a 6-1, 6-3, victory over Manilla. In the No. 4 spot, Ramstromer-Pello upended Wagner, 6-0, 6-0. Grauel defeated Sloan, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position. Freshman Samuel Lemberger earned a 6-1, 6-2, victory over Joona Rahko in the No. 6 slot. Braga posted the only singles loss for the Spartans as he dropped a 6-3, 6-3, decision to Shetty in the No. 1 position.
