NSU Sweeps Christopher Newport, 7-0

Norfolk State earned its third consecutive win with a 7-0 sweep over Christopher Newport on Friday afternoon at the Centre Court Racquet Club.

NSU moved to 3-1 overall while CNU fell to 0-1 on the season.

Freshman Andrea Macchiavello and sophomore Yvonne Kamegne competed at the No. 1 doubles spot where they posted an 8-5 win over Kim Morrissett and Marion Gloor. In No. 2 position, sophomores Laura Gutierrez and Mafalda Lhorca downed Jodi Noland and Melisande Downs, 8-4. The final doubles match that featured sophomore Kia Batiste and senior Rebecca Graff versus Angela Stallman and Jackie Gaine was abandoned at 5-6 because the Spartans won the doubles point.

NSU swept the singles matches.  Macchiavello led off with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Morrissett. In the No. 2 spot, Kamegne claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Gloor. Gutierrez defeated Noland, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-3), in the No. 3 singles position. At the No. 4 spot, Lhorca earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stallman. Batiste posted a 3-6,6-3,1-0 (10-6), victory over Gaine. Graff finished off the singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Downs.
