MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - Hampton forward Keiara Avant was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. North Carolina Central's Tisha Dixon earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Maryland Eastern Shore's Shanyce Stewart earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Avant (Forward, 5-11, Sr., Chespeake,Va.) averaged 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds to aid the Lady Pirates to a 2-0 mark last week. Against Howard, she recorded 15 points, including 6-of-9 from the floor, six rebounds and six steals. In a victory over Morgan State, Avant posted a career-high 32 points and tallied her 13th double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. For the week, Avant shot 71.4-percent from the floor (20-of-28) and 70-percent (7-of-10) from the charity stripe.

Dixon (Forward, 5-11, Fr., Kinston, N.C.) averaged a double-double of 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in two conference matchups last week.  Against Delaware State, she recorded her second double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Stewart (Forward, 5-11, Jr., Mount Vernon, N.Y.) totaled 23 rebounds, nine steals and one block in two games for UMES last week. Against North Carolina A&T she pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds and stole a career-high six passes.

Other Top Performers:

JaQuayla Berry (NCAT) led her team with 23 points and eight rebounds in a 67-55 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. 

Cheyenne Curley-Payne (Howard) totaled 25 points, 20 rebounds and 17 assists in two games for the Lady Bison.

Jamie Foreman (FAMU) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Bethune-Cookman. 

Jasmine Grice (FAMU) led the Lady Rattlers with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds against Delaware State. 

Tierra Hawkins (DSU) averaged 24.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets to wins over Florida A&M and North Carolina Central.

Terrenisha Hollis (B-CU) combined for 19 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and four steals in two games for the Lady Wildcats.

Tracy King (NCAT) posted a team-high of 17 points in a 70-64 win over Coppin State.  

Batavia Owens (NSU) tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Coppin State.

Eboni Ross (NCAT) pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds in a win over Coppin State.

Chastity Rene Taylor (B-CU) posted 19 points, two rebounds, three assists and five steals against Dealware State.

Leola Spotwood (CSU) averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds as the Lady Eagles finished 1-1 last week.
