Norfolk State Holds Off Coppin State 80-70

BALTIMORE -- Andre Armstrong scored a game-high 24 points, but Pendarvis Williams had 23 points and 12 rebounds leading Norfolk State to an 80-70 MEAC victory over Coppin State on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.

Norfolk State (13-10, 8-0 MEAC) remained undefeated in conference play on the strength of shooting 51.8 percent from the floor including a blistering 63.6 percent in the second half.

The Spartans also received 17 points from Malcolm Hawkins and 13 points and eight rebounds from Rashid Gaston.

Armstrong was 5-of-15 from the floor, but made 11-of-12 free throw attempts to lead the Eagles. Coppin State (5-18, 2-6 MEAC) also received 12 points from Patrick Cole and nine points from Michael Murray.

The Eagles were dominated on the inside as the Spartans held a 48-25 rebounding advantage and also outscored CSU 34-24 in the paint.
Coppin State shot just 35.6 percent from the floor for the game and made 7-of-24 three-point attempts.

Johnson Hits Game-Winner Again As Cats Down FAMU In OT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Ricky Johnson's jumper with one second left in overtime lifted Bethune-Cookman to a 67-65 victory over archrival Florida A&M at basketball homecoming Saturday in Moore Gymnasium.

The sophomore finished with a career-high 25 points as he hit the Wildcats' game-winner for the second time in as many games.

Reggie Lewis led four Rattler players in double figures with 17.

Middleton, Underwood On Point Against UMES  

Junior Jeremy Underwood hit two big shots over the final two minutes of the game to lead A&T to a 46-44 win over UMES Saturday evening.

Lamont Middleton scored 17 points, and Underwood hit two big shots in the clutch after coming off of a game where he hit the game-winning three to beat Coppin State.

Middleton was just 5-for-11 from the free throw line, including going 1-for-4 in the final minute of a game that was tied with a minute to play.

Austin Witter added 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Aggies.

Troy Synder led the Hawks with 17 points and seven rebounds.

Defense Keys NCCU's Eighth Straight Victory

DOVER, Del. - A total team effort was the recipe for success for North Carolina Central as Jeremy Ingram's 20 points and Stanton Kidd's fourth double-double of the year combined with a stellar defensive performance jolted the Eagles past the host Hornets of Delaware State 54-43 on Saturday afternoon in front of 1,471 fans inside Memorial Hall in Dover, Del.

The win ties the longest winning streak for the maroon and gray since the 1996-97 campaign when the Eagles won eight straight games to start the season.

Ingram led all scorers with 20 points, while Kidd finished the night with 13 points and 11 boards for his fourth double-double of the year, while Jay Copeland, Ray Willis and Chapman all contributed six points for the Eagles in the victory.

Delaware State (9-11, 4-2 MEAC) was led by the duo of Casey Walker and Amere May who both finished with 11 points, while Tahj Tate went 3-for-11 from the field to end the game with nine points.
