Dixon Earns Second Career Double-Double As NCCU Falls To DSU, 58-49

DOVER, DEL. ­- North Carolina Central rookie, Tisha Dixon, earned her second double-double as the Lady Eagles fell by nine to the Lady Hornets of Delaware State.

Dixon finished the contest tying her season-high of 13 points and collected a total of 11 rebounds. In addition to Dixon, NCCU redshirt senior Chasidy Williams amassed 12 points, while stealing the ball three times and fellow freshman Aja Hoyle contributed nine Lady Eagle baskets and five boards.

As a team, the Lady Eagles shot 32 percent from the field, pulled down 27 boards, captured seven steals, dished out five assists and shot 15-for-24 from the charity stripe.

DSU was led by Tierra Hawkins who also posted a double-double on the day. Hawkins led all-scorers with 25 points while seizing 10 rebounds while also collecting four steals. In addition to Hawkins stellar performance, Tasia Bristow contributed 11 points while Keyanna Tate pulled down nine boards.

The Lady Hornets shot 41 percent from the field, collected 39 rebounds, assisted 13 DSU shots, had 12 steals and shot 75 percent from the free throw line on 12-for-16 shooting.

Savannah State Falls to Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. February 2 - Nationally ranked assist leader Cheyenne Curley-Payne guided her fellow Howard Lady Bison to victory on Saturday, Feb. 2 with a 53-41 win over the Savannah State Lady Tigers in Burr Gymnasium.

While senior Saadia Doyle led in points with 16, Curley-Payne distributed a season-high 12 assists, scored 11 points, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and finished with three steals.

Jasmine Norman led the Lady Tigers in the match with 12 points. Blessing Uba followed with nine points. Nicole Shelton and Charmaine Greene added six apiece.

SSU falls to 6-15 on the season, and 1-7 in MEAC play, while Howard improves to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

SSU senior Erin Hogue set a new Division I school record after scoring her ninth double-double of the season in a 54-75 loss to South Carolina State last week. Hogue scored four points and grabbed six rebounds in today's loss to Howard, breaking her streak of six games with a double-double.

UMES' Stewart Earns 17 Boards, Six Steals In Loss To N.C. A&T


PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -
Despite Shanyce Stewart earning career-highs in rebounds and steals, UMES was unable to overcome an early deficit and fell to North Carolina A&T 67-55 at the Hytche Athletic Center on Saturday.  UMES falls to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in-conference, while N.C. A&T goes to 13-7 this season and 5-2 in-conference.

UMES has now fallen in four straight games, the first time since 2011 that the team has been defeated in four MEAC contests in a row.


Stewart earned a career-high 17 rebounds and six steals in the effort, adding five points.  Shawnee Sweeney earned a team-high 11 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line, while Chalyse Taylor concluded with nine points off the bench, scoring all three baskets UMES made from the perimeter.

JaQuayla Berry had a near double-double for the Aggies, earning 23 points and eight rebounds, going 10-11 from the free throw line.  Tracey King concluded with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Amber Calvin had 13 points and three steals.

Coppin State Routs Norfolk State on Homecoming
BALTIMORE -- Senior Leola Spotwood scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Coppin State cruised to a 79-49 Homecoming victory against Norfolk State on Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at the Physical Education Complex.

Coppin State played well on both sides of the ball. The defense forced 25 turnovers, recorded 15 steals, blocked four shots and held the Spartans to just 29.8 percent shooting from the field. On the offensive end of the floor, the Eagles had 13 assists on 28 field goals made and scored 29 points off of Norfolk State turnovers. Coppin State saw 11 of the 12 players who saw action reach the scoring column and held a 38-28 advantage over the Spartans in bench points.

Coppin State (9-13, 5-4 MEAC) shot 41.2 percent from the floor for the game, which included a 44.8 percent effort in the second half.

Shawntae Payne had 12 points and five assists off the bench for Coppin State, while Janelle Lane scored 11 points and collected five rebounds. Kyra Coleman added nine points and Jaleah Hosley scored seven for the Eagles.

Norfolk State (3-16, 1-6 MEAC) came into Saturday's game having lost three of its last four games, but shot just 29.8 percent from the floor.

Batavia Owens had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Spartans, while Rachel Gordon scored 10 points and collected eight rebounds. Quineshia Leonard had eight points and 12 rebounds for Norfolk State.

Lady Pirates Sail To 81-60 Victory Over Morgan State

BALTIMORE-Hampton's Keiara Avant shot 14-of-19 from the field and scored 22 of her career- and game-high 32 points in the second half to lead the visiting Lady Pirates to an 81-60 victory over Morgan State in a MEAC contest at Hill Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Avant also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to record a double-double. Alyssa Bennett also tallied a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Olivia Allen finished with 15 points for the Lady Pirates, who extended their winning streak to eight straight games.

Morgan State (6-14, 3-5 MEAC) was led by Chyress Lockhart, who came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points. Tracey Carrington and Bianca Jarrett each added 13 points apiece.

The Lady Pirates shot 34-of-71 (47.9 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from three-point range. Morgan State shot 32 percent (20-of-61) for the game and was 2-for-12 (16.7 percent) from three-point range.

Morgan State connected on 18-of-28 from the charity stripe, while the Lady Pirates went 6-of-10 from the free throw line. Hampton held a 49-37 rebounding advantage over the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears bench outscored Hampton, 25-6, but the guests outscored Morgan State 40-22 in points in the paint.
