MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., February 25, 2013- Hampton forward Keiara Avant was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  North Carolina A&T's Eboni Ross earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Tracy King also of N.C. A&T earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Avant (Forward, 5-11, Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) averaged a double-double of 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds along with 4.5 assists and 5.5 steals against Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore. Against Norfolk State she recorded 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out four assists and stole four passes.

Ross (Center, 6-2, Fr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in two games against Savannah State and North Carolina Central. Against North Carolina Central, she tallied a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. For the week, she shot 70-percent from the floor (12-of-17) and 63-percent from the charity stripe (5-of-8).

King (Guard, 5-10, Jr., Alexandria, Va.) led her team with a team-high five steals along with seven rebounds in a 67-45 win against Savannah State. She also had five rebounds and two steals in a 60-33 victory over North Carolina Central.  Offensively, she totaled 15 points dished out four assists.

Other Top Performers:

Tasia Bristow (DSU) posted a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 58-48 win against Norfolk State.

Amber Calvin (NCAT) recorded a team-high 24 points on 9-of-15 from the floor in a 67-45 win against Savannah State.

Ashley Clarke (SCSU) was 4-of-9 from the floor with 15 points in a 58-50 win over Bethune-Cookman.

Ashleigh Claybrooks (UMES) posted 11 points and four rebounds in a loss to Hampton.

Tisha Dixon (NCCU) scored her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to North Carolina A&T.

Kianna D'Oliveira (DSU) grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots against Norfolk State.

Saadia Doyle (Howard) combined for 33 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to aid the Lady Bison to a 1-1 mark last week.

scored 24 points, pulled down eight rebounds and stole five passes in a 67-59 victory over Savannah State.

Persephone Goodwin (SCSU) blocked six shots in a one-point win against North Carolina Central.

Rachel Gordon (NSU) totaled 18 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and stole one pass in two games for the Spartans.

Aivah Parham (NSU) led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points against Delaware State.

Karona Roach (UMES) combined for 20 points and 10 rebounds in two games for the Lady Hawks.

Leola Spotwood (CSU) averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two victories against Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore.

Alexis Udoji (UMES) pulled down 13 rebounds and blocked seven shots in two games for the Lady Hawks.
