MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY TENNIS HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. - February 13, 2013- Norfolk State's Daniel Grauel and South Carolina State's Maria Craciun were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday. Kateryna Nakonechna of South Carolina State received Women's Rookie of the Week honors, while Dzmitry Zyhmantovich of Norfolk State was named Men's Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Grauel (Jr., Munich, Germany) was 2-0 in singles action at the number five position. He won a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Christopher Newport's Will Sloan and followed with a three-set conference win against South Carolina State's Jiri Stiburek (6-3, 3-6, 7-6).

Craciun (Sr., Pitesti, Romania) captured wins in both doubles and singles play in a conference match against Norfolk State. She won the point 7-5, 6-2 against Norfolk State's Andrea Macchiavello and teamed with Klara Dohnalova to win the doubles point 8-0.

Nakonechna (Fr., Kharkiv, Ukraine) aided the Lady Bulldogs in a conference victory against South Carolina State. She won the No. 2 singles point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory and teamed with Katarina Barborkikova to capture the doubles point 8-2.

Zyhmantovich (Fr., Minsk, Belarus) won the No. 2 singles point 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 against South Carolina State and 6-2, 6-2 against Christopher Newport. He was 1-1 in doubles, including a victory against Christopher Newport 8-5.

Other Top Performances:

Mi'Kola Cooper (MSU) earned a three-set victory at No. 2 singles against Drexel's Marcela Rosales.

Ekaterina Iakovelva (MSU) improved to 5-2 this season with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Drexel's Zeynep Mafa at the number one singles position.

Andrea Macchiavello (NSU) captured singles and doubles wins against Christopher Newport.
