MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., December 9, 2013 – Florida A&M guard Jasmine Grice was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Raven Bankston earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Rachel Gordon, of Norfolk State, repeated as Defensive Player of the Week.

Grice (G, 5-0, Grad., Quincy, Fla.) led the Lady Rattlers in scoring in three contests last week, including her second 30-point performance of the season. Grice averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals. She registered 30 points, including going 12-of-12 from the foul line, and pulled down nine rebounds against Norfolk State.

Bankston (G, 5-7, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) continued her streak to three games of scoring at least 10 points or more in a game as she averaged 19.5 points in games against George Mason and Coppin State. Bankston registered 21 points, including shooting 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, in the Lady Hornets’ MEAC opener against Coppin State.

Gordon (F, 6-0, Sr., Woodbridge, Va.) leads the nation and the MEAC in rebounding as she grabbed 26 total boards in games against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. Gordon registered 17 rebounds, 16 points and three blocks against the Lady Rattlers, and followed that with nine rebounds and eight points against Bethune-Cookman.

Other Top Performers: 

Ebony Brown (NSU) poured in a season-high 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and added two blocks against Bethune-Cookman.

Tracey Carrington (MSU) scored a game-high 20 points, and had a team-high seven rebounds against Fairfield.

Kyra Coleman (CSU) notched a career-high 27 points, including 11 free-throws, and grabbed 11 rebounds against Delaware State.

Jamie Foreman (FAMU) grabbed 22 rebounds, including 13 on the defensive end, and scored 13 combined points in three games.

Deanna Harmon (DSU) recorded her first-career double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds, against George Mason.

Ivy Harrington (MSU) averaged 7.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in two non-conference games against Fairfield and Brown.

Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) dropped in 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal against New Hampshire.

Logan Powell (NSU) scored 12 points and hauled down nine rebounds in games against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman.

Eboni Ross (NCAT) averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks against Appalachian State and Virginia-Lynchburg.

Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) finished with 16 points, six rebounds, four steals and one assist against Edward Waters.

Shawnee Sweeney (UMES) averaged 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in games against Monmouth and Old Dominion.

Alexis Udoji (UMES) recorded her seventh straight game with two or more blocks and averaged 10.5 rebounds and 9.0 points in two non-conference games.

Kailyn Williams (BCU) averaged 6.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks in non-conference games against Stetson and Grand Canyon.
