NORFOLK, Va., December 23, 2013 – Hampton guard Nicole Hamilton was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, while teammate Brielle Ward was selected the Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Logan Powell, of Norfolk State, earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Hamilton (G, 5-8, Sr., Hampton, Va.) averaged 21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 steals in a pair of non-conference victories. Hamilton poured in 18 points and dished out six assists in a 50-47 win against Drexel. She registered 24 points, including three 3-pointers, and had six blocks in the 86-75 double-overtime win against Kansas State
Powell (F, 6-0, Fr., Lebanon, Ky.) dropped in 14 points, on 6-of-9 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds in a 116-40 victory against Virginia-Lynchburg. In two non-conference games, Powell shot 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the field and averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Ward (F, 6-2, r-So., Baltimore, Md.) aided the Lady Pirates defensively in non-conference wins against Drexel and Kansas State. In the 50-47 come-from-behind win against Drexel, Ward pulled down 13 rebounds and had two steals. She grabbed 12 rebounds, four steals and blocked a pair of shots in an 86-75 double-overtime win against Kansas State.

Raven Bankston (DSU) averaged 18.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in non-conference games against West Virginia and Marshall.
Racquel Davis (NCCU) averaged a double-double, 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, in games against Campbell and Western Carolina.
Malia Tate-DeFrietas (Hampton) grabbed 19 rebounds and scored 11 points in a double-overtime win against Kansas State.
Jessica Freeman (NCCU) poured in 26 points and grabbed four rebounds in a 73-69 loss against Western Carolina.
Alea Godfrey (BCU) finished with 11 points and three rebounds in an 81-70 loss to Murray State at the Stetson Hatter Classic.
Rachel Gordon (NSU) finished with 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a 116-40 victory against Virginia-Lynchburg.
Jasmine Grice (FAMU) averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in games against Alabama State and VCU.
Tierra Hawkins (DSU) recorded a double-double, 11 points and 13 rebounds, against Marshall.
Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) registered 23 points, six assists and five rebounds in an 83-58 loss against Temple.
Jessica Long (UMES) scored 14 points, dished out five assists, pulled down five rebounds and grabbed four steals in an 81-46 loss against Virginia.
Shawnee Sweeney (UMES) totaled 32 points, five rebounds and four steals in games against Virginia and Mount St. Mary’s.
Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) poured in 25 points, dished our four assists and grabbed three rebounds against Nicholls State.
