Late Comeback Gives Seattle 70-67 Win over NSU

KENT, Wash. – D’Vonne Pickett Jr. hit a driving layup with 20 seconds left to complete a late comeback for Seattle University in a 70-67 victory over the Norfolk State men’s basketball team Thursday evening at the ShoWare Center.

The Spartans had the upper hand for the entire second half until that late shot by the Redhawks, who forced 13 second-half NSU turnovers and also hit 17-of-20 from the foul line in the second stanza. The Spartans had a pair of looks at the basket with time running down but were unable to convert.

The loss dropped NSU to 8-4 on the year, while Seattle improved to 8-3.

The Redhawks were down by as much as 13 in the first half and still trailed by double digits with XX minutes left in the game. The Spartans were still in control after senior Malcolm Hawkins hit a trey and then another shot from just inside the arc. A layup by senior Anell Alexis with 3:19 left, though, marked the last points of the contest for NSU.

Hawkins led all players with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Alexis, with 11, and senior Brandon Goode with 10 also reached double figures for the Spartans.

USF holds on for 73-70 win over FAMU, Thursday

TAMPA, Fla. (Dec. 19) - The Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team dropped a 73-70 heartbreaker to USF, here Thursday afternoon at the Sun Dome.

FAMU would take a 70-69 lead on a made three pointer by Jamie Adams with 1:11 to go in the game, capping an 11-6 run by the Rattlers. 

A Rattler turnover would set up the Bulls next basket as Corey Alley nailed a trey to give USF a 72-70 lead with 37 second left in the contest.

Anthony Collins would increase the Bulls’ lead to 73-70 on a made free throw with four seconds left in the contest.

Adams would miss the front end of a one-and-one as USF held on for the 73-70 win.

In the first half, FAMU grabbed the early 8-1 lead capped off by a Richie Spiller three pointer with 16:44 to go in the first.

The Rattlers would enjoy a lead as much as six points in the first as Bobby King made a layup with 11:40 to go in the first, giving FAMU a 21-15 lead.
