MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Reggie Groves of North Carolina Central was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  James Daniel, of Howard, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State’s Brandon Goode was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Groves (G, 6-2, 190, r-Sr., Raleigh, N.C.) completed 11-of-14 shots from the field and broke the school’s record for 3-pointers in a game with 10 as the Eagles defeated Barber-Scotia, 101-46.  Groves registered 32 points with three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 25 minutes of play. 

Daniel (G, 5-11, 165, Fr., Hampton, Va.) averaged 21.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in three non-conference games last week.  He recorded 27 points, hitting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe, with four rebounds and one steal against San Diego State.  He also scored 22 points, connecting on 10-of-11 free-throws, with four rebounds, four assists and one steal against William & Mary. 

Goode (C, 7-0, 235, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) averaged 10.3 rebounds, 4.3 blocks and 1.3 steals in three games last week.  He posted back-to-back double digit rebounding performances with 11 against Stillman and LIU Brooklyn.  He also contributed a game-high six blocked shots in a 105-83 win over Stillman.  Offensively, he added 17.3 points, connecting on 65.7-percent from the field, to help the Spartans finish 2-1 for the week. 

Other Top Performances

Jamie Adams (FAMU) totaled 42 points and shot perfectly from the charity stripe (14-of-14) in two non-conference games against UAB and Florida Memorial last week.

Ian Chiles (MSU) finished with 25 points, connecting on 11-of-21 shots, with nine rebounds, three assists and seven blocks in a win over Marist. 

DeAndre Haywood (DSU) recorded a career-high 11 points with three rebounds against Buffalo. 

Kendall Gray (DSU) recorded a career-high 19 points with four rebounds and four blocks against Delaware.

Bobby King (FAMU) recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 100-82 win over Florida Memorial

Du’Vaughn Maxwell (Hampton) finished the week with 39 total points, 12 rebounds, three assists, six blocks and four steals in three games last week. 

Dwight Meikle (Hampton) finished with 12 points, four rebounds, six blocks and two steals against Virginia.

Lamont Middleton (NCAT) scored a career-high 33 points with four rebounds, three assists and four steals against Longwood. 

Prince Okoroh (Howard) averaged 22.3 points, 5.6 rebounds in three non-conference games last week.

Pendarvis Williams (NSU) scored 32 points, shooting 12-of-15 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, with seven boards and five assists in a win over Stillman.
