MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., December 16, 2013 – Coppin State forward Larrisa Carter was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Raven Bankston repeated as the Rookie of the Week, while Kailyn Williams, of Bethune-Cookman, was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Carter (F, 5-11, Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) recorded her second straight double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds against Miami. She also scored 20 points in consecutive games for the first time in her career.

Bankston (G, 5-7, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) dropped in 22 points and grabbed six rebounds in 37 minutes against No. 8 Maryland. The 22 points marked the third time she scored at least 20 points in a contest this season.

Williams (C, 6-5, r-Fr., New Orleans, La.) aided the Lady Wildcats to a 1-1 record last week, including a 57-49 non-conference win against Jacksonville. Williams totaled 22 rebounds, 13 blocks and nine points in the two games. She recorded 10 boards, six blocks and four points against Jacksonville.

Other Top Performers: 

Tracey Carrington (MSU) scored a game-high 25 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had two steals in a 75-60 loss against George Washington.

Malia Tate-DeFreitas (Hampton) scored 16 points and pulled down eight boards in a 43-35 win against Bethune-Cookman.

Jasmine Grice (FAMU) poured in 21 points and grabbed four steals against Auburn.

Nicole Hamilton (Hampton) registered 16 points, on 7-of-15 shooting, and added eight steals against Bethune-Cookman.

Ivy Harrington (MSU) finished with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals against George Washington.

Dinah Jones (MSU) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, five defensively, and a career-high six steals against George Washington.

Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) dropped in 23 points, in 34 minutes, in a 57-49 win over Jacksonville.

Alexis Udoji (UMES) registered 13 points and seven rebounds, in 30 minutes of action, against No. 20 Oklahoma.
