Maryland Eastern Shore falls on the road to No. 20 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla.  - In their first-ever meeting against the University of Oklahoma (OU), the Lady Hawks fell on the road to #20 Oklahoma, 105-46. With the loss, UMES dropped to 3-6 overall whereas the Sooners improved to 7-3.

Despite shooting only 22% percent from the field (15-for-69), 10 Lady Hawks scored, led by Alexis Udoji finishing with team-highs in points (13) and rebounds (7). Chalyse Taylor posted five points and a team-high three assists while Jessica Long and Mariah McCoy each had six points in the loss.

For the Sooners, they shot 50% from the floor (35-for-70) and all 12 players scored in the contest, led by Nicole Kornet (26). Nicole Griffin tallied nine points, 11 boards, and four blocks while Morgan Hook recorded a game-high eight assists in the victory.

The Lady Hawks road trip continues as they head to Charlottesville, Va. to face Virginia on Tuesday, Dec. 17th. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.

Defense Steps Up in Bethune-Cookman's 57-49 Win Over Jacksonville

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (3-7) won their third home game in four tries on Sunday afternoon at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium, holding off a second-half push by the Jacksonville Dolphins (3-4) for an outstanding team win, 57-49, marking the first B-CU victory in the series.

Chastity Rene Taylor finished with a season high of 23 points, hitting three from long range and all six of her free throws. The DeSoto, Texas native has led the team in scoring for the last seven consecutive games and this is her fourth 20-plus point performance on the year. Shakeyia  Colyer shot 57 percent from the floor a season-best 16 points, along with three assists and two steals. 

Defensively, redshirt freshman Kailyn Williams leapt into the all-time B-CU season blocked shot leaders list with her six block, 10 rebound performance, passing Danisha Kemp (10th, 29 blocks, 1996) and Kenna Myers (ninth, 30 blocks, 1986) to tie for seventh with Latonya Reed (2004) and Amanda Jones (1988) with 31 rejections on the campaign.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Lady Wildcats out-rebounded their opponent, topping Jacksonville 38-35 on the boards. The team logged a season-best 13 steals as well.

The team also hit a season-best 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line.

The Lady Wildcats return to action on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 20-21) at the Stetson Hatter Classic in DeLand, Fla., slated to face-off with Nicholls State and then Murray State.

Lady Rattlers drop road contest to Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - The Florida A&M Women’s Basketball team dropped a 92-55 decision to Southeastern Conference member Auburn University, here Sunday night at Auburn Arena.

FAMU (6-5) has three Lady Rattlers to score in double-figures as Jasmine Grice scored a game high 21 points to lead all scorers.  Taneka Rubin chipped in 11 points, while Kimberly Sparked added 10.  FAMU had four Lady Rattlers to finished with four rebounds apiece to lead the team on the boards.

AU (7-3) had four Tigers to score in double-figures as both Tyrese Tanner and Peyton Davis led the team in scoring with 19 point each.  Hasina Muhammad dropped in 18 points, followed by Brandy Montgomery with 10.    Tanner led AU on the boards with six, while Muhammad, Kiani Parker and Allina Star dished out five assists each.

FAMU finished the contest shooting 32.3 percent (20-of-62), while AU shot 54.9 percent (39-of-71).  In addition, the Tigers held the rebounding margin over the Lady Rattlers, 45-31.

The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 as they will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Southwestern Athletic Conference member Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in a 6 p.m. CST start.
