Strakova still one of nation's best in homestretch

HAMPTON, Va. – As the Hampton University volleyball team heads into the final weekend of the regular season, junior rightside Vendula Strakova continues to be among the nation’s best offensive players, according to the NCAA rankings released on Monday.

Through matches this past Sunday, Strakova continues to lead the nation in both points (6.58 per set) and kills (5.72 per set), while ranking ninth nationally in service aces (0.51 per set), which also places her second in the conference.

Junior middle blocker Marija Kocevska is currently 47th in the nation – and fifth in the MEAC – in aces, averaging 0.39 per set.

Senior setter Bibiany Fonseca is 75th in the nation in assists with 10.46 per set.

As a team, the Lady Pirates (14-10, 8-2 MEAC) rank sixth in the nation in aces, averaging a conference-best 1.80 per set. Hampton is also 45th among all Div. I programs with a .249 hitting percentage, which is also best in the MEAC.

Hampton is 92nd in the nation, and first in the MEAC, averaging 13.30 kills per set.
