FAMU ends season with loss at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida A&M Volleyball team dropped their final match of the season as Jacksonville defeated the Lady Rattlers, 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 10-25, 17-25), on Tuesday at Swisher Gymnasium.

FAMU (15-8) was led by Ginna Lopez-Chavez as she tallied a match high 12 kills, followed by both Yeisha Arcia and Dei’Ja Martin with eight kills each.  Diana Gonzales finished the match with 33 assists, whereas Joanie Del Castillo finished the contest with 10 digs.

JU (30-3) was led by Sammie Strausbaugh with 17 kills, followed by both Alyssa Robertson and Kendall Nyquist with 12 kills each.  Kendall Courtney recorded a match high 45 digs, while Mayara led the team in digs with 12.

In the first set, an Arcia service ace tied the set at 18-18.   JU would then rattle off two straight points on two straight kills, giving the Dolphins a 20-18 lead. 

FAMU would then cut JU’s lead to 24-22 on a Dolphin attack error. 

JU would win the set 25-22 on a Straushbaugh kill to take a 1-0 lead in the set.

The second set would see four ties as a Dolphin attack error tied the set at 14-14.  The Lady Rattlers would use an 11-4 run win the set 25-18 to the tie the match at 1-1.

FAMU would falter in the third and fourth set as JU won the third set 25-10 and the fourth set 25-17.
